lost scholars (selections)

This series of monotypes grew out of a loose string of drawings, starting with two scholars contemplating a burrito. I placed the figures in landscapes, and before long people asked "what happens?" Narrative is a blunt organizing principle. Stories impose order onto images, their context, their sequence. They suppress and elide most of what really happens in our experience. Even calling it a series already imposes structure and consistency. I tried to make these with a sense of magical action without the burden of an overarching plot.  I have no record of the sequence in which I made these, and I don't know what happens.
